The Friday night Lectures are on Fire

California is on fire! Again... You can see the smoke from my cube! just a quick note: doesn't that photo at first glance make it look like calarts itself is on fire. The only effect it has had on calarts so far is the I-5 has been closed.

So we have had two friday night lectures in the past two weeks. The first one was done by Don Hahn, a producer at Disney. It was really cool and informational. He talked a lot about what makes good animation and gave a lot of insite as to what a producer does and what they look for when taking on projects. He also showed us the Disney short Lorenzo, which was good and apparently is a rare thing to see as it is not published anywhere.

Yesterdays lecture was Leo Sanchez. He had a lot of insight to what it was like to be a modeler and he talked a lot about the changes going on in the disney pipeline. I don't think i can get into specifics but it seemed that the way they went about working on 3d productions felt a lot like how people work on traditional projects. He also showed us Glago's Guest. Glago's Guest is the Disney short that is going to be shown before Bolt. Tonight I'm going to go to a preview showing of bolt with some friends from Calarts.

This song is pretty cool

Ahg, I'm so jealous of you CalArts people with your amazing guest lectures! hehe, just kidding. But really, that's great! Sounds plenty inspiring (well, duh).

Oh, I heard about Galago's Guest! I've been wanting to see it and totally forgot that it was playing before Bolt. Have fun at the preview screening; CartoonBrew gave the movie a pretty good review (well...it's already past...but still)!

PS: I don't know if you remember that weekend in October, but I was the girl (Sam) who visted with Vince. You had lunch with us and stuff. lol.

Oh yeah i know you! thanks for stopping by my blog!!!! It's really cool when people actually comment rather than just lerk anonymously. I thought bolt was good, it isn't Wall-E or Nemo but I might place it above bugs life or cars.
Hows florida? Have you got your portfolio done yet?

What I wish someone had told me before I came to Calarts

  • Get a coffee maker of some kind
  • For your first year don't worry about making a GREAT film. Just make a film.
  • Sketch
  • Make a portfolio, portfolio
  • Don't pull the "all-nighter" just to pull the "all-nighter"
  • Schedule in Breaks
  • Take an english 101 class
  • To get anything done with administration you need to ask more than three times.
