Dead Life - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

So I made this awesome thing in photoshop using one of my old drawings. Man my computer has been making me angry these past few weeks. So i have all the footage on the external drive but then every time i would want to work on it it would not read it, not see it, or it just wasn't thinking right and i would lose the footage. I tried everything, i tried restarting, restarting in safe mode, changing stuff in the setup menu, messing around in the device manager. And then guess what fixed it?! UNPLUGGING THE COMPUTER!

Any way my new computer came in and its awesome. And i got a new ipod touch! Anyway vote for me if my t-shirt gets selected.

Calarts Journey

Once again my correspondence with Ash has proved useful for my blog. I figure i should probably start to post things about my calarts experience so why not start at the beginning:
[excerpt from an email to Ashlee, sorry for the rambling]
I first heard calarts mentioned on this podcast that talked all about famous animators and animation and stuff like that. It seemed in every interview the school would always come up. So when my dad and i scheduled our California schools tour i made sure he put it on the list, not sure at that moment in time of how big of deal the school was. I actually went to California with the idea that UCLA and USC were my best choices. I was wrong. UCLA basically told me not to go there. They said that there program wasn't as good as Calarts. I thought to my self "dang how good is calarts?" USC was impressive but more as a regular school, or a film school, than an animation school. We then went to calarts. Cal arts is 45 mins north of LA in Santa Clarita/ Valencia California. But the area is nothing like LA. It is crazy green there and very suburbian. If you drove by the school you might miss it at first glance because of the trees surrounding it. Calarts is a small arts school started by the Disneys in the 1970's. The idea of the institute was to have all of the arts under one roof to promote a very collaborative environment. It has two animation programs experimental (twitch) and Character animation. I'm doing the character. The atmosphere of calarts can only be described as "artsy". The school is very hippie like in the way that they let you experiment a lot with your art and that they for the most part let you live any lifestyle you choose. The dorm rooms are co-ed, the entire campus (except for the dorms) is dog friendly and the school is clothing optional. That's right you read that last part correctly...clothing....optional. In other words if i wanted to i could wake up and decide it wasn't worth the effort to put clothes on that day and just go to school nude. I won't, but i could.
I don't know what else you want to know about it but if you have any more questions about it just ask.

Resons to go to California

I emailed this list to my freind Ashlee as a way to convince her to go to california for college. I liked it so much i thought i would repost it here

The weather. Sunny summers and mild winters. (if you go to southern california that is)
Disneyland!
They have miles of beach and ocean
you have a governor that could handle an alien invasion or robots from the future
In and Out burger.
Northern california is Amazing
Driving down highway one and driving through the redwood forests ought to be on everyone's to do list before they die
Monterey is amazing (i'm a bit biased to my birth place.)
And the eagles make creepy songs about hotels named after it.

I’ve come to a realization

So over the course of these past few weeks I’ve been thinking a lot about my relationships with other people. And I must say I’ve been doing a lousy job. I really on others for social interactions and don’t take any initiative on my own part for socialization. I put some of the blame on the fact that I’m a sloppy, lazy, workaholic, and that this combination has put me in a place where I have created this illusion of being to busy for stuff. The status of my room is the prime example of how this combination of character traits is taking over my life. The only time I would see most of my friends was during school or at youth group, and now going off to college I will have neither of those to use as an excuse to see the people I care about. Yes, “that I care about”. I don’t seem to be doing a good job of showing it. I don’t want to be remembered as some guy you knew but as a good friend. So I intend to change this and be more evangelical with how I treat my relationships with people. I need to be an instigator of change rather than waiting for change to happen. The first change I’m going to make is getting this room clean. My room seems to be one of these things that are holding me back. The clutter and mess has been holding me captive from getting anything done, and it is this that is making me feel as though I am in a constant state of “needing to get stuff done”. If you are reading this on my blog than you can see the state it is currently in. VERY VERY MESSY. So before I get to working on my video I will clean this room.
Second thing to get done on my to do’s: the Mission Trip Video
Third thing: Go to Indian Jones with Doug and Maggie (or mabey wall e (is that out now… I think it is)

What I wish someone had told me before I came to Calarts

  • Get a coffee maker of some kind
  • For your first year don't worry about making a GREAT film. Just make a film.
  • Sketch
  • Make a portfolio, portfolio
  • Don't pull the "all-nighter" just to pull the "all-nighter"
  • Schedule in Breaks
  • Take an english 101 class
  • To get anything done with administration you need to ask more than three times.
