Yesterday we had the best speaker ever. Mark Andrews or Mandrews, Brad Bird's story guy. He was the man that saved Ratatouille and the genius behind One man Band. He has probably been the best speaker so far and based off of the huge showing of upper class-men I'm guessing he is one of the best we will have. He showed us some boards from the Incredibles and some boards he did for a myth, a similar assignment he gives to his interns. He gave us some great advice for story portfolios, e.g. only show the best part of the boards, don't show the whole story, and no life drawings. Also there, for a guest appearance, was the composer for the Incredibles, Michael Giacchino. Mandrews was very inspiring and really made me want to board after he was done. If i got one thing from his lecture it is that "Story is HELL"! But even so I still want to do it. I got both of them to sign my history of Pixar book! Two signatures down!
You can find Mandrews' blog at Tales of Colossus

The New display cases are finally being used!!! and what is that i see? Is that one of my pieces from life drawing?
It is a piece i did in life drawing.
Me and Bryan had a huge pile of cardboard boxes that we had been putting off getting rid of. On top of that i needed something new to draw on and bryan sugested just kill two birds with one stone and draw on the cardboard. So i did. On most of these i just used pastel but on two of them I carved out shadows with my exacto blade.

Sorry this is a little late but hear is an update on my art projects.
This is me at age 6. It was for animation class. We had to do 20 poses and make them all into silhouette.
Also I got a hair cut!

Here are some life drawings i did. I wanted to experiment with medium so i decided i would try using paper plates. It turned out to be pretty cool. Here are my favorite pieces from that experiment.
I also did our turn around pose on a cup and got some cool results from that
Also I got a hair cut!
Last but not least check this girl out! Her voice is amazing!

More Artsy look
I'm trying to develop a more "artsy" look for my site but the computers have been acting very slow and i need to get back to work. Don't worry i'm still in the process of changing the colors and stuff like that but i just did not have enough time with such slow computers.

NO ONE IS HERE
No one is here. It's like they think we are on holiday or something! Seriously I have never seen the cubes as vacant as they have been this weekend. It's been interesting relying on myself for food this week. Pretty much it's been cereal in the morning (actually for the most part "morning" has meant 1:30 :p) then subway, Jamba Juice, or In and Out at about 6. Quite the nutritious diet. If there were more people around i could probably cook with some people but NO ONE IS HERE. Anyway song of the week is Bright Lights by Matchbox Twenty. I had never really heard this song until now and this is probably one of the best live performances of a song i've seen.

A lot to cover!
On thursday I went to life drawing. I was going to do some experimentation with cups and plates from the cafeteria but when class started we were all told that mike could not be there today and the model called in sick. So what do you do when the modeland the instructor don't show up? Caricatures! We each took turns posing for five minutes and soon we had caricatures of everyone. It was really fun but bye the time 2 o'clock started to role around i was getting really board.
Here are some of my favorite ones i did:

On Friday we had probably one of the best guest lecturers yet.
Jeff snow (right) worked as a story artist and as a story supervisor on films
like Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan, Tarzan, over the hedge and many others. He taught us some cool things about story boarding , and offered some great advise on story portfolios. He even let us see the boards to a short he worked on at Dreamworks that may or my not be produced and a animatic for a short he is working on himself.
He did a story boarding demonstration to show us how he goes from ruff to a finshed story board and i snagged on of the boards to have him sign it. Here it is:

Writing arts! (REALY! TAKE ENGLISH 101 OR AP ENGLISH BEFORE YOU GET HERE)
I have to write a 3 page paper by wednesday and topics were given to us last wednesday but i haven't been able to work on them till now. I already got half a page done but I can't think of what to write because the three topics our TA gave us i either don't care about, it's too broad or it's too narrow. >:0 I can't stand it. I just can't stand it.

Buy stuff!
What I wish someone had told me before I came to Calarts
- Get a coffee maker of some kind
- For your first year don't worry about making a GREAT film. Just make a film.
- Sketch
- Make a portfolio, portfolio
- Don't pull the "all-nighter" just to pull the "all-nighter"
- Schedule in Breaks
- Take an english 101 class
- To get anything done with administration you need to ask more than three times.
