Anyway i got some good news! I won an online film festival. Ho ho Homicide held a contest for indie film makers and i was a winner in the under 5 min category with Fast Food Shorts!!!! I don't think i get any money or anything like that but i will get placed in the bonus features section of Ho Ho Homicide, and i think i get a copy of the DVD (Mabey). Any way this is great because i'll get some free exposure if the dvd does relatively well.

I really like jeffrey lewis's music. Whenever i get a bad critique or an i don't get it response to my art i like to listen to his music, this song specifically:

First visiting artist
Friday we had our first guest lecturer Ben Balistreri. This guy is a calarts alum and did a lot of character and storyboard work on Danny Phantom and Foster's home for imaginary friends. It was really cool! He gave us tips on how to do character turns, how to ink, and how to do story boards. In addition to his animation career he also has recently released a graphic novel called Seaweed, about a pelican who can't fly, that solves mysteries.]
He drew me this in my sketch book
O yeah and here is an update on my cube!

A cool idea?
So i had an idea and i want to know what people think of it. I was thinking of maybe doing bios of my classmates on this blog through a series of interviews. What do you think? It would be something i could do in my spare time and it would allow people to get a taste of what our class is like. And maybe i could talk to some of upperclassmen. IDK it's an idea.

This guy decided to use his collection of action figures for decoration-- Is that communist superman and vampire batman i see?
Oh looks like Bryan and nelson are hard at work... lets not bug them...
Ah this cube has gone with a custom paint job we like to call the "splatter"
thats a cool clock and look at those animals!
And check out his cool action figures!
Uh oh looks like we've upset Skyler lets get out of here
This guy has gone with a "wandering artist" look
Check out these cubes:
Elle thinks cars is the best movie ever, really!
Man this is cool!
Hey look what ashley has painted on her walls
This all has got me feeling inspired lets go back and work on my cube!
Just look what some scissors and glue can do! Ok not a lot but it's a start! Say i think my sketch book could use a makeover too.
That looks better!

Today we went to Santa Monica! it was fun, though something we did made me think. We went to lunch at this london themed restaurant and saw that they had pictures all around the walls of people in the restaurant. Adeline casually remarked "they should take our photo cause we will all probably be famous". While i think the remark was meant to be sorta tough and cheek she has a point probably at least five people from our class will reach that level of fame. I just hadn't thought about it before but i could be taking classes with the next tim burton; I could be rooming with the next brad bird, or even I could be the next brad bird.

Thursday was not as stress full as i thought
ANYONE PLANING ON GOING TO CALARTS REMEMBER:
Do summer classes before you go. Not only does it lighten your load of classes your freshman year but it also lets you skip through the madhouse that is signing up for classes.
I was stressing out about yesterday but it turns out i was stressing over nothing. Wednesday's meeting they threw a bunch of info at us that kinda scared me. I had to finish my special services stuff and sign up for classes but my credits from the summer were still in the air about wether they would take or not. REMEMBER The staff are here for you! Talk to them! i spoke to one of the animation faculty and she said she would help me in clarifying with the office about my credit issues. It was a huge help.
last night there was a party for animators at some guys apartment but we all decided to see the producers show instead. The films were great and we felt so inspired after we decided to go into Mahoney's class room and draw like mad men.
PS napkin Art is the best idea ever (more info sometime soon)
Oh yeah, "Happy Birthday DAD!!"

Here I stand, victorious in my dorm room at my new school, Calarts! All the hard work: preparing a portfolio, rearranging my school schedule and drawing have all paid off finally. Now i look forward to four more years to do it all over again!
First things first, do I need to clean my ears out or have i finally met people who mumble more than i do? I think it's probably both but I have never said "what" so many times in my life.
I think i should go in chronological order.
We got into the dorms and i was the first one there. Dad (the engineer) detected a waist of space in the room and decided to call mom (the non engineer). Mom had this great idea for the set up (seen above) and so we moved furniture. Turns out our idea was so good other dorms came in to copy down the floor plan.
My Roommates name is Bryan and he has the coolest stuff ever! Those pixar posters and R2-D2 unit you see in the corner, all his!

Buy stuff!
What I wish someone had told me before I came to Calarts
- Get a coffee maker of some kind
- For your first year don't worry about making a GREAT film. Just make a film.
- Sketch
- Make a portfolio, portfolio
- Don't pull the "all-nighter" just to pull the "all-nighter"
- Schedule in Breaks
- Take an english 101 class
- To get anything done with administration you need to ask more than three times.
